Firefighters were called to M3 on Friday afternoon after a car caught fire at Junction 6 westbound.

The incident happened just before 3.30pm on Friday (July 22).

Nobody is believed to be hurt in the incident.

According to police, firefighters from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were at the scene and extinguished the fire.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.27pm today (22 July) following reports of a vehicle fire on the M3 Junction 6 Westbound.

"Our colleagues at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were on-scene and extinguished the fire. It has now been handed over to the Highways Agency.

"Police have had no further involvement."

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A vehicle set alight and was severely fire-damaged on the M3. Crews from Winchester and Basingstoke attended. 

"Two breathing apparatus and one hose reel were used. The stop came in at 3.54pm."
