A MICROWAVE caused a fire at a Basingstoke block of flats.

Three fire appliances were called to the scene at Braddock Court at 10.30pm on Thursday, July 21.

The firefighters found a microwave had caused a small fire in one of the flats.

A spokesman from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said "Three pumps from Basingstoke attended, and found it was a small microwave fire.

"The microwave was removed and the resident was handed over to the care of the ambulance service."

A resident who lives nearby said there were no obvious signs of fire.

They added: "The firefighters were opening all the windows though, possibly to let smoke out."

Fire crews left the scene at 10.49pm.
