A 92-year-old man has been released under investigation after he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in Oakridge.

Hampshire Police were called to an address in Maple Crescent at 3.23am on July 6 following reports of an incident.

They found a woman in her 80s with non-life-threatening injuries and she was taken to Basingstoke hospital.

A 92-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but has now been released.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Police said: "The 92-year-old man has been released under investigation and our enquiries are ongoing."

Neighbours reported hearing sirens at around 4am.

Police were seen positioned outside the semi-detached house all morning on July 6 and the property was cordoned off.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said he woke to find a police car parked outside at 8.30am.

He said: “It’s usually very quiet around here.”
