AN APPLICATION to construct a new 20-meter-tall 5G telecommunications pole has been lodged with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

The phone mast was proposed by telecommunications company CK Hutchinson Networks Ltd and will be located at the junction of Buckingham Parade and Kempshott Lane.

The proposal has only received one objection from a resident.

Zoe Bennett, of Pack Lane, said that the mast would be a “complete and utter eyesore” and warned that it would “damage the aesthetics of the community”.

This is not the first time that a company has applied to construct a telephone mast at this location.

BT Cellnet applied to construct a 15-meter-tall mast in 2001.

The application did not go ahead due to a high number of complaints, with the objectors receiving the support of former Basingstoke MP Andrew Hunter.

More information about the new application can be found online at https://planning.basingstoke.gov.uk/online-applications, and entering the planning reference 22/01799/TENO.
