Residents have been reacting after it was revealed that those who live in Brighton Hill do not feel safe leaving their home at night.
A resident survey, undertaken by councillors in Brighton Hill last year, showed that half of the respondents said they feel unsafe leaving their house during the night.
The survey received several hundred replies, and the results were revealed during a crime and disorder joint scrutiny committee held on June 29 at the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council offices.
Cllr Bowes said the incidents residents are most afraid of include public drug-taking often in parks and near children's play areas, intimidating behaviour such as groups hanging around in parks and shouting abuse at passers-by, graffiti and even people stealing parcels from people’s doorsteps.

While the news came as a shock to others, many Basingstoke residents have shared the same feeling after we asked Gazette readers how they feel about leaving the house at night.
Below are just some of the responses.
Amber Levy commented on Facebook: “Absolutely not. I have had some awful experiences and met some very questionable and concerning people.”
Becca Pearce said although she feels safe most of the time she has also felt “unsafe on a few occasions” due to drunk behaviour.
Others said they would feel safer if public transport was better in the town.
Claire Fernandez, added: “Overall yes however I would feel a lot more comfortable if there were more taxis readily available at a weekend.”
Kelly Fellows said the Top of Town has become “horrendous at all times of day though” and Molly Barton said she would “never walk around alone.”

Meanwhile, others were shocked at the survey results and said they do feel safe leaving the house at night.
Erin Witts Collins commented: “Personally I don't have an issue walking around at night and not feeling safe, even with my headphones in.”
While Hayley Maria praised the security staff in the town centre for making her feel safe.
She said: “ I’m not just saying it because I work there but the door staff at plush are amazing! I’ve always felt safe!”
