A FAMILY run company that sells oriental spices and grains is celebrating the success of its first shop more than six months after it opened.

Kitchen Chef, based in Basingstoke, is a wholesale company specialising in supplying shops with a range of authentic spices, lentils and grains from around the world.

Founded in 2017, the company currently supplies its products to more than 300 stores.

However, the company’s owners wanted to see if they could launch and manage their own company store selling Kitchen Chef goods.

Kitchen Chef co-owner Dev Vyas explained: “We thought having a company store, a flagship store, where we actually want to see what we can carry, and we want to duplicate this in other towns if possible.

“And hence we opened up the Kitchen Chef store.”

The company store opened in December 2021 in the Chineham Shopping Centre, allowing members of the public to buy its products directly from Kitchen Chef.

Dev said that the company store has been very successful since it opened.

When asked what the most popular product Kitchen Chef sells is, he said: “Everything’s selling, so I think it’s difficult to pinpoint it!”

He continued: “But one thing I hear from most people now is ‘Oh, now we don’t have to go anywhere if we want to cook anything, we can get everything from the one place’.

“If there is anything customers want, they can always request it, and we will see if we can help get it in.

“We work on the basis that if customers need something or are asking for something, we will try to get it in if possible.”

Dev said that Kitchen Chef is planning to expand the number of local shops that the company operates, saying: “We’re looking to do that by maybe the end of this year.”

“By that time, we will have learnt a lot from this store here, about what it sells, because we work on what people demand.

“We don’t sell what we think will sell, we work around customers, what they want and what they want us to carry.”
