A GERMAN author who hit rock bottom has now written about her recovery in the hope it will help others.

Chrissy Humphrey grew up in a strict Catholic family and at the age of 15 was told by her headmaster that she 'wouldn’t amount to anything'.

She felt she was destined for failure and with no emotional support from her family, she knew she had to leave as soon as she was old enough.

Her ticket to freedom came with the chance to be an au pair in America. That led to years of travel. She loved the freedom and the endless possibilities when exploring countries like the USA, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and finally Thailand.

But then, in December 2004, her grandmother Ottilie begged her to come home to Germany for Christmas. She agreed. And four days later, the Boxing Day tsunami hit Phi Phi island where she had been staying just a few days before.

She felt it was a sign. She wasn’t meant to die. But it took her another 18 years to find out why.

In February 2022, Chrissy, who now lives in Alton, found herself at her lowest point in life. She went through divorce and was made redundant.

Her book - titled You Won’t Amount To Anything - is the result of Chrissy pulling herself out of the depths of despair by focusing on the good in life, finding the right support and refusing to give up.

Now she embodies the Tony Robbins saying: 'your past doesn’t equal your future'.

She said: "I hope my book will help men and women overcome their limiting beliefs, challenges and setbacks to find hope and continue even when life is at its hardest."

Today, Chrissy coaches and mentors writers to create their own books. Most notably, one of her clients recently published her own book: Diary of a Date Rape by Bee Goldsmith.

Chrissy worked with Bee to overcome her self-doubt and fears about putting her story in print. Bee has gone on to help other date rape survivors.

Chrissy’s book will be released on July 7 on Amazon.
