A THIRTEEN-year-old girl has raised over £200 for charity by completing a sponsored muddy run.

Morgan Colombo, a student at Brighton Hill Community school, completed the muddy run to raise money for local charity The Pink Place.

The Pink Place offers free wellbeing services and support to adults affected by cancer and their partners living in Basingstoke and the surrounding area.

Morgan managed to raise £210 for the charity.

She was inspired to complete the muddy run by her nan, Janet.

Morgan said: “I wanted to do the Muddy Run for The Pink Place because one of my nan’s closest friends was diagnosed with breast cancer and the charity really helped her.

“I was inspired by my nan, Janet Delaney to fundraise as she is very good at needlework and makes beautiful craft items for The Pink Place, which are sold to raise funds and so I wanted to do my bit to help and make a difference to people living in our town who have cancer.”

Morgan was invited to present the cheque to the charity, as well as meet some of the people The Pink Place supports.

Christine Griffiths, fundraising and events manager at The Pink Place, said: “Our whole charity has been inspired by Morgan, who at such a very young age has shown so much maturity and thoughtfulness in thinking of others in wanting to take on a challenge to raise money for charity.

“I’m sure she has inspired other young people to do the same.

“These youngsters really are the fundraisers of the future, and it’s so important to encourage and celebrate their successes.”

The Pink Place, which also incorporates The Blue Space for Men, offers a range of free wellbeing services.

The charity also provides complementary therapies, counselling, mindfulness classes and support, both ‘in person’ and via Zoom to anyone from initial cancer diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond.

Christine continued: “Our aim is to help combat the feelings of loneliness, fear and anxiety and I would urge ladies and gents affected by cancer, not to suffer in silence, but to contact the charity.”
