RESIDENTS can support small and independent businesses in the town centre with the return of the popular Borough Basket Street Market this month.

Basingstoke’s Top of the Town will be filled with unique locally-made and handcrafted goods and delicious food as part of the return of the monthly market this summer.

The first market will take place between 11am and 4.30pm on Friday, June 24, alongside the launch of Basingstoke Festival 2022.

Families will be able to enjoy face painting and bunting-making from 3.30pm in Market Place before taking in a colourful parade starting at Cross Street from 5.30pm in celebration of diversity in the borough. The parade finishes at the amphitheatre in Festival Place with further performances from 6pm.

Retailers taking part in the market can take advantage of gazebo hire, a listing on The Borough Basket online marketplace and promotion on the Love Basingstoke website and social media.

The return of the Borough Basket Street Market follows the successful launch of the new initiative last year by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

The market gives 20 local small and independent retailers an opportunity to sell their goods each month, with new retailers encouraged to come forward. If businesses are interested in having a stall, they can complete an application form at theboroughbasket.co.uk/market.

Leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Cllr Simon Bound said: “I am delighted that we have been able to bring back the popular Borough Basket Street Market, with shoppers also able to enjoy lots of family fun with performances as part of the Basingstoke Festival.

“We hope the return of this vibrant monthly market during the summer months will give small and independent businesses across the borough a new platform to sell their goods and encourage shoppers to support our local businesses.

“We would encourage small business owners across Basingstoke and Deane to come forward as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
