A POPULAR pub in Basingstoke, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary, captured an iconic group photo of its customers and friends last week to recreate a 1935 picture.

The Rising Sun pub in Chapel Hill hosted a special afternoon last Friday to celebrate the Royal Platinum Jubilee.

During the gathering, the customers and the residents gathered in front of the pub to take a group photo and recreate the photo taken 77 years ago, and also mark the Queen's jubilee.

There are photos of residents outside the pub during the silver jubilee of King George V in 1935, the silver jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 1977 and the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Diana in 1981.

The last week’s gathering was also a special occasion for the landlord Kevin Divall and his wife as they retired from the pub on Monday, June 6.

The pub also unveiled a defibrillator installed near the pub for the safety of the customers and residents. It was bought using a fundraiser launched by the pub.
