In celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a group of nurseries across Hampshire and Wiltshire have planted cherry blossom and apple trees.

First Friends, which has nurseries in Alton, Basingstoke, Eastleigh and Wilton, Salisbury, got involved in The Queen’s Canopy project to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’.

The initiative inspired its forest school leader, Holly Taylor, to involve the pre-school children in planting the trees at each setting.

In learning all about the Queen and her reign of 70 years, the children have been involved in helping to create a living legacy in honour of Her Majesty.

A spokesperson said: “In the ethos of celebrating nature and the outdoor environment they have also learnt all about trees including how to identify some species, how to respect them and what they need to nourish them.”
