A WEATHER alert has been issued for Basingstoke amid fears that thunderstorms are heading up from the south.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning, which comes into place at midnight tonight and lasts until 10am tomorrow.

The Met Office said many places would stay dry but thunderstorms could bring heavy rain and lightning to some places in the south.

It added there was a small chance homes and businesses could be flooded, and bus and train services could be cancelled where lightning strikes.

It also warned spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

“There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost,” it said.
