A MAN approached a 12-year-old girl and reportedly took her hand and put a ring on her finger before trying to kiss her.

The incident hapepned at around 8am on Monday, May 23, when the youngster was walking along the Waterworks Pathway, which runs between Winklebury Way and Churchill Way North, when she was approached by a man on a bike who she did not know.

It was reported to police that the man took her hand and put a ring on her finger before trying to kiss her.

The man did not say anything and then cycled away back in the direction of Churchill Way North.

He is described as:

  • Aged in his late 30s to mid 40s
  • Approximately 5ft 2ins tall
  • Skinny
  • Black hair
  • Asian with light brown skin
  • Slim face with a clear complexion

He was described as wearing black clothes with a dark red baseball cap. He was riding a yellow bike.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "Police are actively patrolling this area, and officers have been conducting enquiries and working with the girl to establish the details of this incident. We are now asking the public to report any further information to us."
