A ROAD in Basingstoke was closed this afternoon following a road traffic collision where several emergency services were called on scene.

The B3400 Worting Road was closed this afternoon (May 17) both ways between Roman Way and Old Kempshott Lane following the two-vehicle collision. 

The road was closed at around 1.45pm and opened again at about 3.45pm.

Hampshire Police have confirmed the collision involved a car and van on Worting Road.

A spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.06pm to a report of a collision involving a car and van on Worting Road. One person has reported injuries and the road is closed while emergency services attend."

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were also on the scene to release one causality from a vehicle.

A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, added:  "Basingstoke firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and a van, at 1:15 this afternoon. 

"Crews were on the scene beneath the railway bridge on Old Kempshott Lane to release one casualty from one of the vehicles involved. 

"Two other casualties had managed to exit their vehicle prior to the arrival of HIWFRS. 

"All the casualties were assessed by paramedics before firefighters returned to station at 2:06pm."

An alert about the incident was on the AA Traffic website.

It read: "Road closed due to crash, two vehicles involved on B3400 Worting Road both ways between Roman Way and Old Kempshott Lane. Traffic is coping well. The road has been closed since 13:45."

South Central Ambulance Service has been contacted for more information.
