Fighting a losing battle

Dear Editor,

I was wondering what had happened to all the Remainers.

Then up pops a letter, from a Mr. Burton, who is clearly still traumatised by Brexit. He refers to the Prime Minister, as a liar, but isn’t arch Remainer Antony Blair, the yardstick, by which to judge liars.

He and Alister Campbell, turned lying into an artform, even taking us into an illegal war. And let’s not forget it was Blair, who incorporated the Human Rights Act into law, now it is difficult, if not impossible to deport illegal immigrants, even if they have committed rape or murder.

I cannot understand why Johnson has not rescinded it. Remember, how our European ‘Partners’, allowed millions of economic migrants, mostly young single men, to enter the EU.

Instead of them claiming asylum, in the first safe country, they were ‘waved through’, given rail passes on their journey to the French coast.

Here the French Coastguards, connived with people smugglers to deliver immigrants into British waters, all this despite us paying the French millions to stop them.

The Rwanda plan, does seem to be working, with no boats arriving. I think it’s time Mr. Burton, grew up, he says he is ashamed to be British, and still believes those who voted for Brexit are xenophobes and racists.

And yes, I can sleep at night, unlike him I suspect, who is still fighting a lost battle.

‘Wonderful people’

Dear Editor,

I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at Basingstoke hospital Coronary CU ward, without whom I would not be here today.

Wonderful people doing a wonderful job. Bless you, each and every one.

Service with a smile

Dear Editor,

There is more than just the weekly shop and the cash machine in the One Stop here in the village of Oakley to make a visit worthwhile.

There are two attractive shop assistants that happen to be sisters and
not easily identified apart.

Lucy and Hayleigh Pogmore are well ensconced in to the running of the
shop and the much used Post Office and you can always be sure of service
with a smile.

Flypasts

Dear Editor,

HM Forces will play a major part in Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.  Fleet reviews may be history but there should always be ‘sea room’ for the Royal Navy at state events.

The RAF, which operates 75% of British military aircraft, closes the Queen’s Birthday Parade with a fly past.  It is surely right for Fleet Air Arm aircraft, with Army Air Corps colleagues, comprising a very front-line 25%, to take part in fly pasts, both along The Mall and at Armed Forces Day (Scarborough the national host this year).

The Fleet Air Arm and Royal Marines make it obvious that the Royal Navy is about more than ships and submarines.
