THE popular Basingstoke Festival of Transport is returning to the town during its traditional time of year – the first weekend in May.

Considered one of Basingstoke’s major community events, the Transport Festival will be held on Sunday, May 8 at the War Memorial Park.

Organised by Basingstoke Deane Rotary and supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, this year’s show is once again a complete sell out with 900 vehicles registered and 80 trade/charity stalls attending.

The festival will also feature a wide range of refreshments, from burgers to ice cream, and entertainment for kids.

The various trade/charity stalls include the 24th District Cubs with ‘Hook the Duck’, games for kids, Jams & Chutneys, Men’s Workware, Hand Made Crafts, collectable toys & models, tools and autojumble.

One popular stall at last year’s show was Basingstoke Institute of Advanced Motorist which had a visit from veteran rally driver Paddy Hopkirk MBE.

There will also be Rotary and ShelterBox stands featuring the great work being done throughout the world.

ShelterBox is a Rotary-supported charity and was involved in providing emergency aid and practical help for refugees of Ukraine fleeing the war in their home land.

ShelterBox have a team in Lviv, working to support people in Ukraine and those who have fled to neighbouring countries like Moldova.

The festival organisers said £2,000 from the car park receipts will go to a charity supporting the people of Ukraine.

The Festival is open from 11am until 4pm. Admission is free. Parking costs £3 per vehicle and will be open from 9.30am with the entrance from London Road.
