A MAN has been left with several fractures after being attacked in an underpass where he was punched in the face and threatened by someone with a knife.

The incident happened at around 9pm on Friday, April 22, when a man in his 20s was attacked by an unknown man in the A339 underpass between Abbey Road and Upper Sherborne Road.

The victim was approached from behind and punched in the face, which caused him to fall to the ground.

He got up, but was assaulted again. The suspect, who is described as being aged around 19-years-old, then threatened the victim with a knife.

The victim was able to run away from the offender before flagging down a member of the public for help.

He suffered a fractured eye socket and a fractured cheekbone and was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, but has now left the hospital.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police, said: “The suspect is described as being mixed race, 5ft 7ins tall and with dark coloured eyes. He has brown hair that is short at the back and side.

“He has an earring in his right ear and has facial hair. He was wearing a black jumper with a red Nike tick on it and black tracksuit bottoms.

“Officers have been making enquiries but are now asking the public for help.”
