A PAINTING created by eight separate artists in lockdown has been proudly displayed.

When Tadley and Baughurst Art Club were unable to meet and paint together during lockdown, club treasurer Viv Benton proposed that members work together on a collaborative painting as a way of keeping the club spirit alive and well.

Viv said: “Back in the early days of 2021, when the club was unable to meet in person due to Covid, I remembered an article in the SAA magazine “Paint”, about a collaborative project in Sidmouth, and thought it would be fun to do something similar ourselves. So I found a photo of our Club summer barbecue taken by me in happier times, and divided it into eight sections.

“Dividing it was not as easy as it sounds, as my first attempt had several people cut in half, not a pretty sight.”

Each section of the painting was created by a different member of the club, who volunteered to take part.

The paintings were then all joined together to create the finished piece.

The resulting painting was displayed at the club autumn exhibition last October, together with the original photo, and a black and white version showing the artists who took part.

The club now has a new home at The Link at Tadley and District Community Centre and Centre Manager Mandy Atkinson was happy for the club to hang the painting and the original in the Beavers room (where the club meets each week).

She added: “You’ve all done an amazing job, lovely to see the different styles you all have coming together. As a community centre we are proud to host such a diverse friendly group of people all coming together with the same passion.

"We are a small friendly group meeting twice a week on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 to 12.30 and Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30, and you can come to either or both of these sessions."

The group meet at The Link in Tadley Community Centre, Newchurch Road - in the Beavers Room which is bright and spacious. Members work on their own projects in a wide range of styles and mediums, with help and encouragement from each other.

The club is holding its spring exhibition over the weekend May 7 and 8.
