THE clinical lead at North Hampshire’s vaccination centres continues to encourage residents to come forward to receive booster jabs as they have now delivered ‘well over 330,000 vaccinations’.
Dr Tim Cooper is continuing to spread encouragement in the continued fight against Covid-19.
He said in Basingstoke the team are seeing a 'steady flow of patients' coming to the two current vaccination sites at Festival Place and Jameson House.
He said: “The reasons for people wanting to be vaccinated are many and it’s been fascinating hearing the different motivations for people to protect themselves and those around them.
“We are well over 330,000 vaccinations and its been a testament to our patients who have come forward to protect themselves and their community.”
Anyone between the age of Five to 11 is also being encouraged to come forward.
He added: “We are also supporting an increasing number of 5-11 year olds for their first vaccinations, ensuring they remain safe over the coming months and giving them the opportunity to get vaccinated if they wish too. For our younger patients aged 5-11 we would ask that people continue to book via our call centre or the national booking service, which ensures we have the right staff and vaccine available on the day.”
The two sites remain open throughout the week for walk ins for any doses for those over the age of 18.
He added: “Our primary care teams are back out into care homes and to our housebound patients ensuring they remain protected over summer.
“With the longer days and the hints of better weather to come, many people are getting ready for what we hope will be a normal summer holiday. We would encourage those who are heading abroad to check the requirements of vaccination so as not to be disappointed. Phone, wallet, keys, passport and vaccination status is something I would encourage our patients to think about as they head off for a much needed holiday.”
Tim said vaccination is “working well” to keep all of us from becoming acutely unwell and hopes this will reduce the pressure on our NHS moving forwards.
He said: “Many of us will recognise the challenges across the NHS at the moment, with high staff absence and high numbers of patients needing support both through general practice teams and hospital. Vaccination remains a key tool we have to keep safe against COVID 19 and help us get back to normal. We are hopeful that this most recent wave of infections is passing shortly, but we have seen the value of vaccination to prevent the risk of serious illness in our community.
