A MUCH-LOVED grandfather died at his Odiham home following an infection, an inquest has heard.

Brian William Selley, of Palace Gate, died on August 21, 2021 following a period of ill-health.

The 86-year-old, suffered from Type 2 diabetes and Parkinson’s disease - a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement - and was “frail” in the later months of his life.

During an inquest into his death, which took place at Winchester Coroner’s Court on Monday, April 11, coroner Sarah Whitby recorded a conclusion of natural causes.

Posting to Instagram at the time of his death, Mr Selley’s daughter Anne Twist, who is the mother of One Direction star Harry Styles, said: “My heart is broken once more… our family has been reeling from the loss of our dad, grandad, brother, friend.

“Dad you were so brave and courageous, always smiling and with a sharp and witty comment at just the right time.

“We love you totally and forever. Sleep sweetly you beautiful man. Go be with Mum.”

Anne, who is a supporter of charity Parkinson’s UK, has previously posted pictures of Mr Selley on social media. Harry, a singer, songwriter and actor, has not publicly commented on his grandfather’s death. However, Harry’s older sister Gemma Styles also posted touching tributes to Mr Selley online. She said: “Rest easy Grandad, effortless comic and all around wonderful man.”

The inquest heard a report provided by Mr Selley’s GP, which stated the primary cause of death as septicaemia, caused by an infection.
