POLICE have confirmed that someone has sadly died following an incident on the railway line between Clapham Junction and Woking earlier today (Monday, April 11).

Traveller were warned to expect changes to rail services between Basingstoke and London Waterloo after reports that someone has been struck by a train.

South Western Railways announced that, due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Clapham Junction and Woking, all lines are closed.

Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised, with disruption expected until 3pm.

Now, British Transport Police (BTP) has confirmed that a casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.

A BTP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Raynes Park station at 10am following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Posting to its website earlier today, SWR wrote: "We have received reports that a person has been struck by a train between Wimbledon and Surbiton. Our response teams are working with the emergency services to assist with the incident.

"In order to allow emergency services access to the railway all power to the track will need to be switched off in the affected area.

"We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey."

  • Clapham Junction - Dorking in both directions
  • Clapham Junction - Portsmouth Harbour / Southampton Central in both direction.
  • GWR services between London Paddington and Basingstoke via Reading in both directions.
  • London underground services via any reasonable route.
  • TfL buses on any reasonable route

There are also replacement buses running between Clapham Junction and Woking in both directions.
