The application to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council states that the plans would “facilitate the use of an existing, albeit unused, ground floor storeroom as an office required to administer the rental of Enterprise’s rental vehicles”.

The work to update the storeroom would include installing a replacement door and new glazing on the front.

Access to the unit, which is underneath one of Festival Place’s multistorey car parks, would be from Churchill Way.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car UK Ltd is a global vehicle rental company offering customers local and airport car rentals, car sharing, car hire and van hire.

It is based in 30 countries with more than 7,200 locations.

If approved, the new branch in Festival Place would employ five people.

The application states: “The proposal here is focused on facilitating Enterprise’s use at Festival Place and within the centre of Basingstoke generally. Their use will convert an unused storeroom into active use, to accommodate their office to administer their rental vehicles.

“Unused car parking spaces in front of the proposed rental vehicle office will be used to store rental vehicles, for pick-up and drop-off by customers”.
