A HOUSEBUILDER hopes to offer a home in Whitchurch to a family fleeing Ukraine.

Bewley Homes is offering the three-bedroom home, which is ready to welcome its new residents.

Andrew Brooks, Bewley Homes, managing director, said the Basingstoke based company was keen to do everything possible to help a family facing the devastating fall out of the war in Ukraine.

Andrew said that red tape means the house in Whitchurch, Hampshire, still stands empty and the company has appealed for the process to be streamlined to help families in desperate need of accommodation.

He said: “Throughout our company the staff have been donating money for Ukraine and as a company we have been matching funding their generosity, but we wanted to do more.

“We have a number of buyers who have part-exchanged their Bewley home for another and that’s when we struck on the idea of offering one of these quality homes to a fleeing family.”

He said the property in Whitchurch was built by Bewley in 2018 and has been taken off the open market so that it can become a house for a Ukrainian family for a year.

He added: “We are now just facing a waiting game to be matched with a family.

“We have registered the accommodation but are feeling some frustration at the time everything takes when all we want to do is help a family in need.”

Elaine Stratford, sales and marketing director at Bewley Homes said the property is being furnished by the housebuilder and will make a comfortable new home for Ukrainians in an ideal location for the family to be supported in their move.

“We can only imagine the horrors these families are facing but hope that by offering a house in a wonderful community with access to good schools and transport network we can give one family respite from the war and somewhere they can call home, even for a short while,” said Elaine.

Bewley Homes is now hoping to be matched with a suitable family and said it is also keen to share its experiences with other housebuilders who may be looking to follow its lead in offering a home to Ukrainian’s.
