Move over Wordle, there is a new daily game for us all to enjoy and this one will see you guessing far-flung destinations.

Millions of people have been agonising over the New York Times mind-bender for months but now a new brainteaser vying for your game-playing time has been created.

Software developer Tobias Dustin, from Rooksdown, has launched Worldle, with hundreds of people already having a go.

Tobias said: “We were playing Wordle a lot and then that went viral and there was another game called GeoGuessr where you get dropped into Google Street View and you have to figure out where you are in the map, I thought why don’t we put the two together and make a daily game where you have to guess the country.”

The daily game involves people attempting to guess the randomly selected country of the day. Like Wordle, the aim is to get the correct country in as few guesses as possible.

But unlike Wordle, Worldle offers players clues to help them get closer to the correct answer.

“Players get five text boxes and you have to guess the country, in the first instance everyone guesses a random country and then the game figures out where your guess is compared to the correct answer,” Tobias said.

If the answer is correct the box will turn green, if it’s a country that borders the correct answer it will turn yellow. Players will also be given the direction and the distance of the day’s country from their guess before trying again.

Since its launch, the game has seen hundreds of people test their geography knowledge.

“It is very exciting, I am hoping that we can reach a thousand players each day,” the 25-year-old said.

Explaining why he created the game, Tobias said: “It was just one of those things where you get an idea in your head and you’ve got to do it and this one worked quite well.

“I love maps and geography in general and knowing where you are in the world is important, I fell.”

Tobias said that he also hopes it will help people become aware of the smaller countries that exist in the world.
