THE developer behind 82 new homes in Overton have said work will start shortly after it was given go-ahead following appeal.

Bewley Homes has purchased land at Two Gate Lane to build a mixture of homes as part of its Garden Village Collection. The company were given planning consent in November last year following an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.

In March, Basingstoke councillors unanimously rejected the scheme after the junction with B3400 was deemed unsafe.

Concerns were also raised that a kickabout space in the new development would cause a nuisance to existing residents of Two Gate Meadows, and that gardens planned for one-bedroom units on the site were too small.

Following getting permission, work will soon get underway on the development which will include one-bedroom maisonettes, two, three and four bedroom homes, as well as provision for public open space. As part of the scheme, 33 affordable homes for rent and shared ownership will be built.

These 82 quality new homes will help some of the way to satisfy the local demand for new housing in Overton and in the Basingstoke and Deane borough.”

Mr Brooks added: “Our ethos is to deliver greener and more sustainable schemes for the future. As part of our proposals, we instructed ACD Environmental to undertake a Biodiversity Impact Calculator (BIC) assessment to establish the impact on biodiversity. As a result, Bewley Homes has committed to retaining and enhancing on-site habitats including woodland, native hedgerow and bramble scrub and providing new on-site habitats including native hedgerows, lowland meadow vegetated gardens and new trees. In addition to the on-site enhancements, we have also committed to creating additional off-site habitat in the form of 0.83Ha of mixed deciduous woodland and 1.15 Ha of lowland meadow.”
