MORE than 100 Scouts from Basingstoke took part in an annual night hike from Kingsclere to Overton last week, amidst torrential rain.

This was the first night hike annual fixture for the Scouts since the start of the pandemic.

Twenty teams made up of 108 Scouts and 12 leaders and young leaders undertook the hike, while 20 leaders supported the event at its checkpoints and the finish base.

The Scouts walked 12kms from White Hill near Kingsclere towards Overton, with tasks to perform under time pressure enroute at four of the seven checkpoints.

They earned points for their effort, teamwork and achievements at the check points as well as for time taken to cover the distance.

The Overton team finished first in the hike, while Hatch Warren arrived second. Worting and another Hatch Warren team finished in third and fourth spots respectively.

The rain was torrential at times throughout the evening and night.

There was hot food and drinks for all at the finishing point.

The hike was organised by Gareth Cairns, assistant district commissioner Scouts for Basingstoke West, Steve Baron and Stuart Williams, both of Overton Scouts.
