Nominations are open for the annual Junior Doctor Awards, celebrating the dedication, compassion and skill of junior doctors working across Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The awards will give patients and their relatives, as well as colleagues, the opportunity to show how much they appreciate outstanding junior doctors working for Hampshire Hospitals by nominating them for a special award.

Doctors who are eligible for the awards deliver care at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s three hospitals, Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital, in Winchester.

You can submit your nominations until 8 April 2022 by visiting hampshirehospitals.nhs.uk/juniordoctorawards and completing the nomination form.

The winners will be announced during a special ceremony taking place later this year, with a total of 11 awards up for grabs, including rising stars, patient champions and team of the year.

Amanda Stafford, joint chief registrar at Hampshire Hospitals, said: “We are delighted to announce the 2022 Junior Doctor Awards. We really want to hear from people who feel that junior doctors working for our trust have provided exceptional, compassionate care or gone above and beyond to help their patients.

“We are now in our fourth year of these awards, which are held specifically to celebrate the contribution that junior doctors make to their patients. They also provide an opportunity for patients and colleagues to thank doctors who have made a difference to them by going beyond the call of duty.

Mariam Malik, joint chief registrar, added: "A junior doctor is a doctor who has completed medical school but not yet become a consultant or GP - some junior doctors are in their first year of working, whilst others have many years of experience!

“There are over 400 junior doctors working across HHFT involved providing excellent care to our patients every day and these awards are a great opportunity to stop and reflect on all that they have achieved over the last year.”

Dr Lara Alloway, chief medical officer for Hampshire Hospitals, said: "Our junior doctors are a vital part of our team, and have yet again risen to what has been an extraordinarily challenging year - continuing to keep our patients at the heart of everything they do and being a support for one another.

“As hard as it will undoubtably be to narrow down the winners, I’m looking forward to hearing what I’m sure will be some amazing stories at the ceremony. Every nomination is testament to the importance of our junior doctors, who regularly go above and beyond for their patients and colleagues.”
