Elmer the elephant, Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, Batman and plenty of Frozen characters, it’s not what you expect to see at a Basingstoke pre-school but on Friday children have been marking World Book Day.

Youngsters at Tiny Steps Pre-school came dressed in a range of clever, beautiful and inventive costumes to celebrate the international event.

Pre-school managers Helen Heath and Connie Bryson said: “Tiny Steps Pre-school parents have done fabulously. Children have been on a bear hunt and made special collage elephants for Elmer.

“We had a special visit from author Kath Routledge who read her book Hollie Hamster Goes to School, the children sat beautifully and loved this special treat all about techniques to make children less anxious for starting big school.”

Today is leading into the pre-school receiving special visits from a chef, a painter, a nurse a musician and lots of other professionals who will be teaching the children about their jobs.

“We wanted to learn about our local community after being isolated for so long due to Covid,” they added.

Tiny Steps Pre-school supports children from ages 2 until they go to school and have a few spaces still available for new friends to join us this term. To find out more, go to www.tinystepspre-school.com.
