A MOTORIST has been fined more than £900 after he was caught speeding on the M3 at Basingstoke.

Kwabena Asante, 41 and of Harlow, Essex, was driving a Vauxhall Mokka on the northbound carriageway between junctions six and five at 115mph – the limit is 70mph.

Asante admitted the charge during a magistrates court hearing. He was fined £923 and given six points on his licence.

He was also told to pay £90 court costs and a £92 victim surcharge.

A BASINGSTOKE man has been convicted of assaulting a woman following a trial at magistrates court.

David Stephens, of Deanes Close, pleaded not guilty to assault by beating of a woman on July 16, last year. He stood trial in January and was found guilty.

He has now been sentenced and has been fined £180. The 51-year-old must also undergo 20 days of rehabilitation, pay £310 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

MAGISTRATES have ordered a man to carry out unpaid work after he harassed a woman by turning up at her home.

Shaun James, of Brahms Road, Basingstoke, repeatedly called his victim and turned up unannounced at her address on October 8, last year.

On the same day he also sent her a text which conveyed a threatening message and damaged her front door.

In January he pleaded guilty to harassment without violence, sending letter/communication/article conveying a threatening message, and criminal damage. Now he has been ordered to carry out 60 hours unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation days.

The 28-year-old must also pay a £95 victim surcharge and £40 court costs.

A MAN who was caught at Basingstoke Railway Station with Class A and B drugs has been fined hundreds of pounds.

Aaron David Argent was stopped at the station on February 1 with a quantity of cocaine and three wraps of cannabis.

The 22-year-old pleaded to being in possession of the drugs and has now been fined £300. Argent, of Greenwich, must also pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

A FREEFOLK man who was concerned in the supply of a Class B drug and found in possession of others has been told to carry out unpaid work.

Edward Afentakis, 20, was concerned in the supply of ketamine between December 10, 2019, and February 16, 2020, in Overton.

On February 16, 2020, he was also caught in the village with a quantity of cocaine, cannabis resin and Etizolam.

He indicated guilty pleas to all the offences in January and has now been ordered to carry out 240 hours unpaid work in the next 12 months.

Afentakis must also complete up to 20 days rehabilitation, pay a £95 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

MAGISTRATES have ordered that a Basingstoke man must abstain from alcohol after he admitted assaulting two women.

Maciej Adam Kaminski, 47 and of Armstrong Road, pleaded guilty to assaulting the two victims on March 11, last year.

He has now been ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work in the next 12 months and abstain from alcohol for the 30 days, which will be monitored.

Kaminski was also made subject of an electronically monitored curfew, along with paying £85 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

AN OLD Basing man has appeared in court and admitted to damaging bedroom furniture at a hotel in the town six years ago.

Alastair James Stewart, 28 and of Newnham Lane, admitted to damaging the furniture worth £500 at the Great Western Hotel on February 9, 2016.

He also pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour on the same day and committing an offence whilst on a suspended sentence.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report. Stewart will appear at the same court on April 1.
