BASINGSTOKE and Deane Borough Council have refused a planning application that would have seen a family home built in a rural part of Basingstoke.

Councillors on the development control committee unanimously refused the application for the self-built three-bedroom family home on New Road in Little London, Tadley.

The application had been refused previously due to the impact it would have on Berry Court Farm House and the impact on the surrounding environment.

Simon Greaves, vice-chair of Pamper Parish Council spoke against the application.

He said: “I wish to reinforce the councils’ objections to this application because the development would cause significant harm to the setting of the grade II listed building in the area.

“The local infrastructure and surfaces would be put under considerable strain and would not be able to support the development. New Road is a small road with crumbling verges and construction traffic will only make matters worse.”

Andrew Cleave, a Hampshire naturalist also spoke against the plan expressing his concerns on the environment.

He added: “I have major concerns with the environmental impact such a development would have on the stream known as the Little London Brook and the surrounding historic trees.”
