STUDENTS from a school in Tadley played cupid as they delivered over 100 roses raising over £300.

Year 11 prefects from The Hurst school in Tadley delivered the flowers to students across the school in an initiative that has raised £360.

The money they raised will be given to the organiser of their school prom at the end of the year.

The students behind the idea, Seb Groom, Alicia Corbett, Talia Knop, Scarlet Smith, Will Chave and Emma Hall wanted to raise money to put towards their prom, which will celebrate the end of the Year 11 students’ GCSEs and also mark the end of their time at The Hurst.

Talia said: “We had a meeting to discuss ways in which we could raise money for the prom, and with Valentine’s Day coming up we decided to sell roses to students for £2 each."

They gave every tutor group across the school slips of paper where students had the opportunity to purchase a rose, and write an accompanying message to their valentine for a £2 charge.

Seb Groom added: “This initiative has proved particularly popular with our Year 7 and Year 11 students and I am really impressed with how many students have taken part and we have raised a lot of money.”

Students could choose whether to include their name on their message, or could send the rose anonymously.

The prefects then spent two evenings after school handwriting and attaching the messages to the roses, before hand-delivering over 180 blooms to the lucky recipients at the start of the school day today (February 14).
