A MAN who was found seriously injured in Basingstoke died of “stab wounds to the chest”, an inquest opening has heard.

Troy Harkness, 22 and of Thornhill Road, Aldershot, was found seriously injured in Abbey Road, near the junction with Popley Way, on January 19.

He was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jordan Graham Clarke, 25, of no fixed abode, has been charged with his murder.

He appeared before Winchester Crown Court on January 25 where the case was adjourned for a pre-trial plea hearing on April 19.

Clarke was remanded in custody following the hearing.

An inquest into Mr Harkness’ death has been opened and adjourned at Winchester Coroner’s Court pending the outcome of criminal proceedings.

The coroner said that a further review is expected to take place on July 29.

A post-mortem examination concluded that the cause of death was “stab wounds to the chest”.

Following Mr Harkness’ death, his family paid tribute to him, saying: “Our son was full of life and he always brightened the room with his smile.”
