THE borough council has unveiled plans to build a new MUGA (multi-use games area) for junior aged children in Cranbourne.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has received contributions from developers to improve two public open spaces in Cranbourne Lane and Radford Gardens.

The plans include creating a junior MUGA on the field off Cranbourne Lane with basketball hoops and goals, located next to the existing children's play park.

The council said that the funding is allocated to improve access and facilities within both the open spaces and to “enhance the scenic quality through planting”.

It said the funding cannot be used to improve the existing play facilities.

As part of its proposals, the council wants to also install a street workout system; a 1.5 metre wide path through an avenue of trees; new benches; and mounds laid with wildflower turf to help reduce noise from the MUGA to nearby residents.

Groups of trees will also be planted to break up the open space.

In the open space next to Radford Gardens the council plans to create a new footpath; install benches; and plant trees and wildflowers.

Residents can comment on the plans before February 13 by emailing landscape@basingstoke.gov.uk.
