YOUNGSTERS who are looking for exciting career opportunities are being encouraged to take part in a series of events.

The events all happen during National Apprenticeship Week, which takes place this week.

This year’s theme for the week is ‘build the future, with businesses and apprentices across the country invited to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses, and the wider economy.

Emily Bartley, economy and culture degree apprentice, said: “Doing an apprenticeship is a brilliant way of gaining experience, meeting like-minded apprentices, and putting your new skills and knowledge into practice.

“There is such a wide variety of industries you can get involved in, with the opportunity to gain higher qualifications as you progress through your employment journey.”

Staff from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council were at Basingstoke College of Technology’s apprenticeship recruitment fair between 4.30pm and 7pm on Monday, February 7. They discussed apprenticeship opportunities available at the council and the support and training that apprentices receive.

The council currently has five apprentices working across several services including economy and culture, human resources, and building control.

As well as this event, anyone looking to find out more about apprenticeship opportunities or employing an apprentice can visit the apprenticeship and skills partnership’s virtual surgery between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday, February 9 or drop into The Orchard between 2pm and 4pm on Thursday, February 10 to talk with members of the north hants employment skills zone about local apprenticeship and other training opportunities.

Cllr Simon Bound, acting leader of the council, added: “It is so important to help young people in finding a career path that is right for them and supporting them into employment.

“Apprenticeships provide a unique opportunity to earn while you learn, gain first-hand industry experience, open up new career paths and can even enable you to go to university without taking on student debt.”

“For people who are wondering whether an apprenticeship could be the right fit for them, these events are the perfect way to find out more.”
