A new Indian takeaway is opening on Fisherton Street today, taking over premises with a great heritage.
Desi Spice Hut takeaway and collection opens at 4.30pm on 157 Fisherton Street, which is thought to be the home of one of Salisbury's first Indian restaurants.
Whilst renovating the front of the building, the new owners even uncovered the original sign for 'Himalaya Tandoori Restaurant' which opened in 1977.
Ninety-one-year-old Nasir Ali, who opened the original restaurant, said: "We first opened this as an Indian restaurant after swapping it with the Italian restaturant next doors, it was the year that Elvis died.
"Indian food was still quite new to England and certainly new to Salisbury as it was one of the first restaurants in Salisbury. I wish the new owners the best in continuing this legacy on this premises."
Tohur Ali, a Salisbury chef who has worked at Shah Jahan in South Western Road for 30 years, has helped the new family-run takeaway get off the ground.
He said he is "quite excited" and "confident" about today's opening.
The 48-year-old added: "The customers will judge how successful we become.
"We have different flavours, to suit different tastes, if you want it really hot we can do that, mild dishes and a combination of flavours.
"The menu is quite balanced to suit most tastes, so give it a try."
The term 'Desi' is Sanskrit and encompasses the whole of the South Asian region including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Mr Ali described the food as "authentic a taste you can get without being at home".
Mr Miah, 57, who has been living in Salisbury since the 1980s and is overseeing operations at Desi Spice Hut Takeaway looks forward to "opening to the community".
