A GOLF course in Tadley has been put on the market a month after the owners withdrew an outline application for 90 affordable homes outside the playing area.

Bishopswood Golf Course on Bishopswood Lane in Tadley and its club house have been put on sale for £4.5 million.

The property is located on 74.65 acres (30.21 hectares) land.

According to Quintons, the property management company dealing with sale, the land offers potential for alternative uses on parts of the site whilst still retaining the golf club and range.

The sales advertisement said the uses include residential care and social and private housing.

The owners for the golf course had applied for several planning permissions to build on the land in the past seven years.

This includes applications for building a care home, extensions of the club house into a hotel, and building affordable housing units.

Except the care home application, all the other plans were rejected.

The latest was the plan for 90 affordable housing units outside the playing area.

According to the application, which is now withdrawn, a social housing provider had agreed to purchase this site if the outline permission was granted.

However, a Quinton official confirmed that the application was withdrawn later because the local authority could not “determine the property and the resources”.

The owners were granted permission in 2015 to build a 120-bed care home on the land. Although some works had begun the project had not kicked off.

They are now applying to determine whether the works commenced as part of implementation of the 2015 permission are still lawful.

Cllr Derek Mellor, who represents Tadley and Pamber ward, said: “As much as we need some affordable housing in Tadley, I would very much regret any development on green land that is designated for sports and leisure.

“That was my policy for the application for 90 units, which was called Deanswood.

“The revised application by the owners of the Bishopswood, which refers to the permission they were granted in 2015, is just procedural, and not a planning application as far as I am aware. Let’s see exactly what they want to do.”
