A TOP of the Town business has proved that it pays to have a green Christmas after winning a festive window display competition.

WaxWorks Skincare Centre, in Church Street, has been crowned the winner of the competition which saw 13 businesses in the Top of the Town area transform their shop windows into a winter wonderland.

Receiving a £200 cash prize which was generously donated by Squirrels Antiques, WaxWorks pulled out all the stops with its plastic-free, handmade and recycled display. It wowed shoppers and received the most votes.

The festive competition was organised by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Economic Development and Love Basingstoke teams to support Top of the Town businesses and encourage residents to shop local during Christmas.

Businesses which took part included Willows Coffee House, Gabardine Bar, Skoolkit, Stone Jewellery, Beauty by Aga, The Tea Bar, The Lime Leaf, The Secret Garden, Sue Ryder, Naomi House & Jacksplace, The British Heart Foundation and American Nails.

Leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Cllr Ken Rhatigan, said: “I want to congratulate WaxWorks Skincare Centre for dazzling shoppers with its fantastic Christmas display, all of the businesses who took part and Squirrels Antiques for kindly donating the prize for this competition.

“It was great to support this initiative and see shoppers supporting our town centre’s fantastic businesses during the festive period after another difficult year. There are plenty of ways to shop local including visiting businesses in the town centre or shopping online at www.theboroughbasket.co.uk.”

Owner of WaxWorks Joanne Goodman said: “This year at WaxWorks, we really didn't want to contribute to any more waste and so decided to create a handmade, eco-friendly Christmas display.

“We all loved sticking and gluing and so when we discovered we had won the best window competition we were absolutely thrilled! Thank you to Alan of Squirrels for his incredible generosity and the whole team will be enjoying a belated Christmas meal out so thank you.”
