Dr Sarah Jarvis appointed new medical advisor to Amplifon UK

Global hearing specialist Amplifon, which has a store in Winchester, has announced TV’s Dr Sarah Jarvis MBE as its new medical advisor as it urges even more people to get their hearing tested.

Dr Sarah, a practising GP and resident doctor on Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine show, has teamed up with Amplifon, the global leader in hearing healthcare, to offer advice to customers on hearing loss over the next 12 months.

Sarah, a regular on ITV News for more than 20 years, will use her experience to empower Amplifon customers to take better care of their ears.

Amplifon, which has 105 stores across England and Wales, champions the importance of better hearing and its impact on improving quality of life and healthy ageing.

Those with untreated hearing loss are more likely to experience issues such as cognitive decline, dementia, depression and social isolation.

Dr Sarah was welcomed to the Amplifon family by Jessica Owen, an audiologist at the Winchester store, on St George’s Street, who said: “Dr Sarah is a real advocate for improving lives through better healthcare, which has been part of Amplifon’s ethos since the business was founded.

“The Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID) estimates that there will be around 14.2m adults with significant hearing loss across the UK by 2035, so it is vital that everyone takes steps to protect and care for their hearing whatever their age.

“Dr Sarah’s values align with Amplifon’s, so she is well placed to help us spread the message about the importance of hearing health to even more people. We are all really excited about this partnership and we look forward to working with Sarah during the year ahead.”

Dr Sarah visited an Amplifon store to begin her role as medical advisor, experiencing a free hearing test with one of the company’s expert audiologists and meeting staff.

She said: “I’ve spent 30 years trying to help patients to understand that untreated hearing loss can lead to social isolation, anxiety, depression and even to dementia, and I know that, on average, it takes people ten years to seek help.

“With the right support, simply by getting their hearing loss treated, people can increase their chance of living a full, successful, independent life.

“I’m passionate about this and I can’t wait to take it to the next level with Amplifon.”
