FIREFIGHTERS are urging the public to drive safely after seeing an increase in the number of road accidents since the start of the year.

Basingstoke Fire Station, which said they have attended 11 road traffic collisions since the start of 2022, has urged the public through their social media channels to follow the speed limits.

The fire station said four of these cases were critical.

A woman was killed in a crash involving a pedestrian and a car on A303 between Basingstoke and Andover on Friday evening, while two people – a man and a woman – were killed in a three-vehicle collision on B3006 in Selborne on Saturday.

One injured man in the Selborne accident was taken to Basingstoke Hospital for treatment.

Basingstoke Fire Station said in their social media post: “Since the start of 2022, Basingstoke Fire Station has attended 11 road traffic collisions, four of which have been critical.

“We are urging the public to continue to drive safely and drive to the conditions presented to them.

“Remember - follow the speed limits, DO NOT drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol and DO NOT become distracted. We will continue to make lives safer.”
