A MAJOR road in Basingstoke will be closed for five days this month to allow for new water connections.

The stretch between Sarum Hill and New Street on Winchester Road will be closed for five days from Monday, January 17, it has been revealed.

All traffic will be prohibited from travelling along Winton Square, and the diversions will be indicated by traffic signs.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has issued a temporary road closure notice to make arrangements to allow for three new water connections.

Although the order will be in effect for three months, the council expects the road to be reopened after five days of work.

The council said in the closure order that they are satisfied that traffic on the road should be restricted or prohibited because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road.

For alternative route during the diversion, follow New Street-Timberlake Road-A3010-Churchill Way West-Worting Road-Sarum Hill.
