A man from Chineham has suffered serious injuries after a crash on the A31 in the New Forest.

The eastbound carriageway was closed for nearly 12 hours as a result of the collision. It has since reopened.

Police were called around 11pm following the collision involving a white Honda Civic and green Ford Focus near Minstead in the New Forest.

The driver of the Ford, a 69-year-old man from Chineham, suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.

Officers investigating the collision are keen to hear from anyone who can assist their enquiries.

They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who has dash cam footage of either of the vehicles in the moments prior to the collision.

The road was closed between Ringwood and the M27 to allow for investigation work.

National Highways said traffic was diverted via the A338 northbound into Salisbury, then onto the A36 eastbound to M27 J2.
