A NEW vintage-inspired alpine bar has opened in Basingstoke, offering customers the chance to relax and enjoy a drink in an apres-ski style atmosphere.

The Portsmouth Arms in Hatch Warren has opened the new alpine bar which offers German-inspired sweet and savoury food including Bavarian pretzels, bratwurst rolls, and a Christmassy sharing board with a whole baked camembert and pigs in blankets sausage rolls.

A speciality drinks menu will also be available with a selection of wintry favourites such as mulled wine and traditional steins of German Helles lager.

Following on from the success of last year at select pubs within the Hall and Woodhouse group, the independent brewer has expanded its alpine bar locations to include the Portsmouth Arms.

Richard Curtis, general manager of The Portsmouth Arms, said: “We could not be more pleased to welcome the Alpine Bar to The Portsmouth Arms this Christmas. It has brought such a wonderful atmosphere to the pub and guests have been thoroughly enjoying it so far.”

He added: “The festive period is busy for everyone and to have this relaxing space for guests to be able to immerse themselves in has been a welcome escape for many from the Christmas chaos. It is already proving to be a roaring success and we hope this will be a regular addition to Portsmouth Arms for many Christmases to come.”
