Charity Crimestoppers launches first ever Most Wanted campaign to include the Isle of Wight.

The charity Crimestoppers has launched its first-ever Most Wanted campaign covering the Isle of Wight today, displaying the faces of 27 wanted individuals on a digital advan screen in Newport.

The people are wanted for a variety of offences including assault, harassment and burglary which have taken place in IOW and Hampshire. Crimestoppers launched the UK's Most Wanted in 2005 and it has been highly successful, with over 4,300 arrests to date.

People are urged to visit Crimestoppers-uk.org/most-wanted and to scroll down to select the Hampshire & IoW region. Should you recognise any of the suspects and have information on their potential whereabouts, please contact Crimestoppers charity 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111 or complete a simple and secure anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.

Crimestoppers guarantees that everyone who contacts the charity stays 100% anonymous. Since the charity was formed in the late 1980s it has always kept its promise to protect the identity of all who use the service.

This campaign follows similar successful local Most Wanted campaigns run by the Crimestoppers Hampshire and IoW Volunteer Committee for over ten years.

Emily van der Lely, Regional Manager at the charity Crimestoppers, said: “This is the first time we have facilitated Most Wanted on the Isle of Wight and I look forward to increasing awareness of our charity and publicising wanted individuals.

“Our independent charity empowers communities to speak up and stop crime. While Hampshire and Isle of Wright is a comparatively safe county, there are people at large who are wanted by law enforcement.

“The success of our Most Wanted campaign is down to the public and their willingness to help protect those they love and the communities they care about. I encourage everyone to check the digital advan screens and our website, to let us know immediately if you have information, no matter how small, on any of the wanted individuals.

“You can call us on freephone 0800 555 111 or visit Crimestoppers-uk.org/most-wanted. As a charity, we ensure your identity is totally protected - just tell us what you know and we’ll pass it on for you. We’ll never ask for your personal details. It could be your information that makes all the difference.”

Donna Jones, Hampshire and IoW Police and Crime Commissioner, added: “I am pleased to support the Crimestoppers Hampshire and Isle of Wight ‘Most Wanted’ campaign. By sharing the identity of the most wanted people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, we are encouraging people to pass on any information to help locate these individuals.

“Anyone with information can report it to Hampshire Constabulary by calling 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website.”
