A VEHICLE has been "fully destroyed" after catching fire in a blaze that also spread to a storage unit.

Firefighters from Hartley Wintney Fire Station were called at 1.44am this morning, Monday, November 22 to a vehicle alight on Station Road in Hook.

The car and trailer attached to it were on fire and a crew from Basingstoke were called to support as the fire spread to a storage unit.

A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, said: “On-call firefighters from Hartley Wintney were mobilised at 1:44 this morning to a vehicle alight on Station Road in Hook.

“The car was well alight, including the attached trailer, and a crew from Basingstoke were called to support as the fire had spread to a storage unit.

“The vehicle was fully destroyed with a nearby bin partially damaged by the fire which was extinguished using four sets of breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.

“Cutting tools were used to access the building which also suffered slight damage in the fire."

Hartley Wintney Fire Station found no key-holder in attendance so contractors secured the building before leaving the incident.

Hartley Wintney Fire Station, tweeted: “Early start to the day - 01:40 mobilised to a car fire in Hook, on arrival Car & Bin well alight, quick action prevented serious escalation! 4 x BA - 2 x HRJ - no Key-holder in attendance, so contractors secured the building before leaving the scene.”
