THERE were nearly 1,000 new Covid cases in Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in the most recent seven-day period as the region continue to witness another coronavirus outbreak risk.

The borough recorded 990 new cases in the seven-day period during October 20-26, which was 9.7 per cent fewer than the previous week.

The region also recorded one more Covid-related death during this period. The total number of Covid deaths in the borough now stands at 300.

The interactive map on the government website shows just how many people have tested positive for the virus in each area of the county over the seven-day period.

The government breaks down the numbers of coronavirus cases into neighbourhoods called 'Middle Super Output Areas' (MSOAs), which are smaller than council wards and based on population rather than geographical area.

The interactive map allows users to type in their postcode and see how many cases were reported in their area and if it has increased or decreased from the week before. The darker the colour on the image, the more positive test results have been recorded.

The map highlights which areas of the nation have three or more confirmed cases of the virus and colour co-coordinates the areas by how many cases they have.

Currently, there are 41 Covid patients at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as of October 24.

That number rose sharply at the start of July, but has remained relatively stable since the start of September.

In October, the number of patients in Hampshire hospitals reduced slightly before coming back up again. The Trust was caring for 249 Covid patients at its peak in January.

The trust, which runs Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover hospitals, admitted three Covid patients on October 17, the most recent day with statistics available, and has three patients on a ventilator, as of October 19.

In Basingstoke and Deane, 78.2 per cent of people aged 12 and above have had two doses of a Covid vaccine, as of October 23.

First doses have been given to 83.7 per cent of people aged 12 and above in the borough.
