CHILDREN and staff at a school in Basingstoke have donated 400 items to a food bank.

Rucstall Primary School in Basingstoke were able to donate the 400 items thanks to generous donations from family and friends.

The donations were part of the schools Halloween and harvest celebrations.

Daniel Mills, the deputy headteacher at Rucstall Primary School said It was lovely to help the community.

He said: "As schools are adjusting to a new way of working throughout the ongoing pandemic, it has been lovely to continue to offer these experiences for our children whilst also supporting the community.

“Our school slogan is a caring, fun-loving, learning community and it is a real pleasure to be able to continue to offer these rich experiences which benefit not only our wonderful pupils but the families and residents within the local area."

Children at the school also enjoyed the opportunity to carve pumpkins and residents were able to spot them on the grass banks both inside and outside the school on the last day of term.

The pumpkins were then donated to local farms to be used as animal feed so that they were not wasted.
