Basingstoke Ladies 1s travelled away to Bath for a clash against Team Bath Buccaneers in the National League Conference West. Goals from Clare Griffiths and Fiona Parker secured a point in a 2-2 draw against Bath after a Player of the Match performance and vital saves for goalkeepers Gemma Carswell.

Basingstoke Men’s 1 also secured a point in a close match against Eastcote after a first half drag flick from Graham Garrett-Lang led to a 1-1 draw, continuing their unbeaten start to the season.

Basingstoke Ladies 2s had an early trip away to Slough Ladies 2s in the South Central Premier Division 2. After a strong start from Basingstoke, Slough managed to score 2 goals in quick succession after some attacking play down the right, which were deflected into the goal by accident by Basingstoke’s defence. A third goal was added shortly after with a lob past goalkeeper Elle Smith, leaving Basingstoke 0-3 down at half time. Basingstoke came back with a strong second half despite only having 11 players, with strong play down the middle of the pitch from Jo Bowden and Maddie Saunders, Basingstoke were able to pull one back from a penalty corner later on, put away by Milly Raybould and the game ended 1-3. Basingstoke Men’s 2s suffered a similar 1-3 loss away to Gillingham.

Basingstoke Ladies 3s lost 0-5 to a strong Haslemere 2nd team and Basingstoke Men’s 3s also suffered 0-5 defeat away to Bournemouth.

Basingstoke Ladies 4s similarly visited Bournemouth who started strong and scored the first goal of the game. Basingstoke’s Amy Rowe then levelled the score with a 1-2 play with Ulrike Maier. Soon after Bournemouth scored their second goal, but Maier brought the game even from a penalty corner. Bournemouth then scored 3 consecutive goals taking them beyond reach however Basingstoke ended on a high with Georgie Creese scoring their third, however the game ended 5-3.

Basingstoke Ladies 5s were able to find their first win of the season with a vital 4-2 win against Petersfield at home. The goals came from Luci McCallum, Tamzin Williams, Emily Romain and Mitch Lloyd and a standout performance from Gemma Allen earned her player of the match.

Basingstoke Men’s 5s travelled to Chichester to play Lavant 1s. Basingstoke took a 1-0 lead halfway through the first half, started by William Hazelwood and finished by scored by one of four junior players in their debut season, Toby Osbourne. Basingstoke dominated the first half, with some excellent hockey from Albie Perry and Will Robson on the wings, but Lavant were a strong team keen to get back in the game, demonstrated by a green card for each side.

After two unfortunate goals, both from penalty corners from Lavant in the second half the final five minutes saw opportunities go begging for Basingstoke and the final score finished 2-1 to Lavant. Some great play for the newly formed Basingstoke team who had two new adult players in the team for the season.

Basingstoke Ladies 6s were the second of only 2 Basingstoke teams able to get a win this week with two goals from Kirsten Hazelwood and one from Hannah Dudman to win 3-2 against Portsmouth 5s.

This weekend brings the well-deserved half term break for most teams with only one league game scheduled. The Ladies 1s however continue their National League campaign and travel away to face Cheltenham.
