A Kidlington man who threatened his neighbour with a pitchfork must be assessed by a psychiatrist before he can be sentenced.

John Douglas, 72, has already admitted harassing his next-door neighbour in early September and possession of offensive weapons.

He repeatedly tried to open her front door and walked into her garden with a pitchfork and a pair of scissors.

His solicitor, Will Alexander, told Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday that two psychiatrists had prepared reports on the pensioner – but disagreed on the best way he should be sentenced.

The bench agreed to put the case back for two-and-a-half weeks for a third doctor to provide a report.

Douglas, of Maple Avenue, Kidlington, was remanded in custody until November 9.
