SAINSBURY’S has announced that it will open a brand-new supermarket in Hook next year.

Preparatory work has started on site this week to make way for a bespoke, state-of-the-art shopping destination in advance of construction works beginning in the new year.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s property director, said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing a new Sainsbury’s store to Hook and can’t wait to welcome customers at the end of next year.

“We’re committed to leaving a measurable positive impact on the communities we serve, and we will continue to keep residents updated as we gear up to deliver this exciting new store, including how to apply to join the new store team."

The new 25,000 sq. ft. store is aimed at supporting economic growth and will provide over 100 new jobs across a range of roles and levels. Recruitment is expected to take place in the Summer 2022.

As part of Sainsbury’s commitment to invest £1 billion over the next twenty years to become a Net Zero business by 2040 at the latest, the new store will feature an exciting range of new sustainability features.

Last month Sainsbury’s announced a new partnership with Neighbourly to donate surplus food to local charities as part of its longstanding commitment to tackle food waste. Throughout the pandemic, Sainsbury’s funded and supported distribution of over 24 million meals, via almost 4,000 unique charities.

Inside the store will also be a new Argos store which hopes to bring greater choice, value and convenience to customers.

The announcement follows the highly anticipated opening of Sainsbury’s newest format supermarket in Staplehurst earlier this year, with three more set to open in time for Christmas in the towns of Colwick, Aylesbury and Ludlow.

The retailers of the store have said they are confident the arrival of its new store will allow it to meet the grocery needs not only of Hook itself, but of the surrounding villages and communities as well.
