A BASINGSTOKE resident was left furious after he was woken up at 5am to the sound of noisy works coming from train station on Sunday.
Jamie, who lives in the town, described the overpowering noise that woke him in the small hours as “either drilling or grinding”.
The racket from the railway continued until the sun came up, and is a repeat after a similar event from last year.
He told the Gazette: “We were woken around 5am and it continued until the sun came up and intermittently afterwards.
“It was constant and impossible to sleep and continued through to sun rise. The irony being this was on world mental health day.
“Network Rail gave no notice at all of the expected noise disruption and so far they’ve apologised and they’ve said they’ll be contacting the local department for comment.
“However, they did exactly the same thing last year.”
A 14-second video shared by Jamie has loud noise coming out of the train station.
He also tweeted the video to the Network Rail asking why the residents were not given any notice regarding the works.
So @networkrail @NetworkRailWssx this was the noise that woke 1000s of residents surrounding Basingstoke station last night and lasted until sunrise. Zero notice given. No consideration for our well-being. Care to explain? @MariaMillerUK @BasGazette @BBCWatchdog pic.twitter.com/Xbe4HskT2w

Replying to the tweet, Network Rail said their local team will contact Jamie regarding the issue.
The Gazette has contacted the Network Rail for a comment, but so far they are yet to provide a response.
Last year, however, in response to loud works from the train station that woke up scores of residents at around 3.30am, the company said it was “essential maintenance” that had to be carried out “now there are fewer trains running”.
A spokesperson continued: “"This will improve reliability of the railway when the regular timetable resumes.
"We have reminded teams to send out notices to local residents when there is going to be pre-planned work which is going to be noisy.
